Vic; Transport company cuts staff

Melbourne public transport group, National Express, says there'll be NO disruptions
to tram, bus or train services when it lays off 50 management and administration staff
today.

A spokesman says the lay-offs are a result of the integration of management work within
the company behind Bayside Trains, V/Line's passenger service, Swanston Trams and the
National Bus Company.

He says about 90 jobs are affected by the merging of buses with trains and trams, but
between 30 to 40 staff have taken voluntary redundancy packages.

National Express employs 3,000 people across its four transport wings.

The Australian Services Union has condemned the job cuts in the run-up to Christmas
as the actions of a Scrooge.
