QLD: Skase lawyer reveals death threats

A Brisbane lawyer who represented CHRISTOPHER SKASE in his battle to avoid extradition
says he received death threats from disgruntled members of the public.

TONY MORRIS, QC, represented the failed businessman fighting against extradition to
Australia to face massive fraud charges stemming from the collapse of his companies.

The fugitive former Brisbane-based businessman died in Majorca today, according to
news reports from the Spanish island.

Speaking on ABC radio, Mr MORRIS said it had been difficult representing Mr SKASE.

Some members of the public assumed Mr MORRIS had represented Mr SKASE because he supported
what the businessman had done.

He says as a result he has received death threats by telephone and through the mail.

Mr MORRIS says Mr SKASE had a genuine fear about returning to Australia, believing
he would never get a fair trial.

But Mr MORRIS says the SKASE affair has had several beneficial outcomes, with the law
now changed preventing a bankrupt from leaving Australia.
